TransGaming announced today the renewal of the OEM and distribution agreement with Mandriva, the leading retail distribution for the Linux operating system. Under this agreement, MandrivaLinux 2008 customers will receive access to TransGaming's Cedega product that will allow them to play hundreds of PC games out-of-the-box. The ability to play blockbuster games rounds out the capabilities of MandrivaLinux 2008 making it a leading desktop of choice for both productivity applications as well as electronic entertainment.
Cedega is the world's only commercial gaming solution for the Linux operating system. Cedega allows users to run PC games on their Linux operating system seamlessly, transparently, and with equivalent performance and game play. The ability to play games today ranks as the second highest usage of a desktop, after surfing the web. This makes Cedega an extremely vital application for the Linux desktop.
“We are extremely pleased to be partnering with Mandriva once again to bring accessibility to many of the world's most popular PC games on MandrivaLinux 2008”, commented Vikas Gupta, CEO & President of TransGaming. “Video games are more mainstream than ever before and the ability to play top games on traditionally underserved platforms is made possible through innovative products like Cedega.”
"We are pleased to expand our long-standing relationship with TransGaming. Mandriva Powerpack and Cedega enhance the user experience of Linux gamers. This combined offering provides a turnkey platform for video game editors willing to enter the Linux desktop market," added David Barth CTO & Vice President of the Consumer Business Unit for Mandriva.
Mandriva Linux Powerpack 2008 unifies the former Discovery and Powerpack+ editions. The installation process and initial desktop experience have been optimized to be accessible for first time users. Experienced users will enjoy advanced installation options and new innovative technologies, integrated to work "out of the box". Mandriva Linux Powerpack 2008 also features all required server and middleware components for developers and for small enterprise usage, like SQL databases or Web frameworks.
