Motorola has had a mostly quiet CES but there were a few announcements at CEO Ed Zander's keynote speech this morning. The most interesting of which is the Motorola RIZR Z6 which looks like a sleeker RIZR Z3 from the outside but sports Motorola's Linux based OS on the inside. The Linux and Java based OS has only been used on a few handsets and this is its highest profile launch.
Features of the RIZR Z6 include:
- Quad-band GSM plus EDGE
- 2-megapixel camera
- microSD card slot
- 105.5mm x 45.5mm x 16 mm
- QVGA 320×240 screen with 262k colors
- Music player with support for Windows DRM plus MP3, AAC, AAC+, AAC+ enhanced, AMR NB, WAV and XMF
- Bluetooth with A2DP stereo support
Motorola expects to begin shipments of the RIZR Z6 later in the first quarter. While no announcement has been made, Cingular is the likely target for this handset.
