KDE Storms First Day of FOSDEM 2007

The first day of the annual Free and Open Source Developers' European Meeting in Brusssels was very busy for the KDE team: attending talks by other talented hackers, hosting KDE related talks in the developer room, representing KDE at the booth, mingling with other hackers, bug hunting and work on new features. KDE had a strong presence this year, at least twice as many KDE people attended including a very strong showing from the Amarok developers. Speakers in the KDE developer room included Jos van den Oever, Stephan Laurient, Flavio and Sander Koning.

KOffice 1.6.2 Released

The KOffice team today released KOffice 1.6.2, the second bug-fix release in their 1.6 series. Although this is a maintenance release, there are some new features in Krita (new filters and a smudge paint operation) and Kexi (a new User Mode to deploy Kexi applications).

KDE at Guademy, Spain and FOSS MEET, India

A joint KDE and Gnome meeting is taking place in Spain next month called Guademy. The objectives are to create new projects and initiatives of collaboration between both Desktops and allow new developers to get started. Aaron Seigo will give an update on KDE 4 and Albert Astals Cid will talk about Okular. Meanwhile in India Pradeepto Bhattacharya of KDE India will be talking at FOSS MEET in NIT Calicut about KDE 4 and why you should develop with Qt.

The Road to KDE 4: Okular and Ligature Document Viewers

"Focusing again on applications this week, specifically I'll look at two of the promising document viewers for KDE 4, Okular and Ligature. They are two of the rising stars of KDE 4, but they both have their roots as KDE 3 applications that have grown up."

KDE 3.5.6 Released

The KDE Project today announced the immediate availability of KDE 3.5.6, a maintenance release for the latest generation of the most advanced and powerful free desktop for GNU/Linux and other UNIXes. KDE now supports 65 languages, making it available to more people than most non-free software.

KDE 4: the ultimate business desktop?

Since beginning as a one-person project over ten years ago, the fourth generation of the K Desktop Environment (KDE) is poised to be the most business-friendly open source desktop to date with a host of new features ideal for enterprises.

KDE 4 is now in rapid development and is scheduled for release sometime next year, with the final date still to be decided.

KOffice 1.6.1 Released

The KDE Project announced the release of KOffice version 1.6.1, the first bugfix version of KOffice 1.6. Since this is a bugfix release, only two of the components, Krita and Kexi, added new features.

KDE e.V. Quarterly Report 2006Q3 Now Available

The KDE e.V. Quarterly Report is now available for July to September 2006. Topics covered include the outcomes from the 2006 membership meeting, the status of the Technical Working Group's improved charter, the new press channel from the Marketing Working Group and for the first time a report from the Sysadmin Team. All long term KDE contributors are welcome to join KDE e.V.
