Flash Player 9 for Linux Beta Has Arrived

Flash Player 9 Update includes all of the features from the release versions of Flash Player 9 (9.0.16.0 and 9.0.20.0) for supported platforms. In addition to bug fixes and minor enhancements, this release introduces support for full screen mode in the web player and support for Windows Vista. These release notes document known issues related to the beta versions of Flash Player 9 Update.

While we are still working out exactly how to distribute the final Player version to be as easy as possible for the typical end user, this beta includes 2 gzip'd tarball packages: one is for the Mozilla plugin and the other is for a GTK-based Standalone Flash Player. Either will need to be downloaded manually via the Adobe Labs website and unpacked. The standalone Player (gflashplayer) can be run in place (after you set its executable permission). The plugin is dropped into your local plugin directory (for a local user) or the system-wide plugin directory.

A prerelease build of Flash Player 9 Update for the Linux platform is now available. Flash Player 9 Update for Linux currently does not include full-screen mode and complete SSL support (SSL support is currently available in the Linux Plugin but not the Linux Standalone Player). Full-screen mode and SSL support will be available in the final release. The current Linux build is 9.0.21.55.
